What we believe

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, and its central message is the Good News that there is forgiveness for sin and eternal salvation through Jesus Christ alone. We believe in the power of God’s Word (the Bible) and His sacraments (Holy Baptism and the Lord’s Supper) to save, heal, forgive, nurture and mature the minds and souls of all who believe in Jesus Christ. We also believe the Bible prepares and teaches us how to live a life pleasing to God and is the only source, norm and guide for Christian beliefs. Lutheran teachings and beliefs are described in the Book of Concord, the confessional writings of the Lutheran church.  We believe worship is the core of the Christian community, where God promises to meet us and equip us for life and loving others like Jesus.

Our Mission:

The Mission of the Church is defined by Jesus: “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:18-20).

Our Vision:

Connecting Our Community to Christ
In carrying out the Great Co-Mission of Jesus, we will be faithful in using our God-given gifts and talents, devoting ourselves to the task of making disciples of Jesus Christ. We build relationships both outside and within the church demonstrating Christ-like compassion in responding to the needs of others. Christ calls us to make disciples throughout the world; beginning in the hamlet of Mendon; the neighborhoods in which we live, the greater Rochester area and beyond. All that we do is in obedience to our Lord Jesus, carrying out his Great Commission: making disciples; bringing lost people to a saving faith; and nurturing believers to mature in the faith.
